The Secretary General José Miguel Insulza of the Organization of American States (OAS), today received a delegation from one of the parties involved in the dispute over construction of a highway in the Isiboro Sécure Indigenous Territory and National Park (Tipnis), located between the departments of Beni and Cochabamba in Bolivia.

After the members of the National Confederation of Indigenous Peoples of Bolivia (CIDOB) were introduced, Secretary General Insulza listened to arguments for and against construction of a stretch of the Villa Tunari-San Ignacio de Moxos highway through the Tipnis.

The OAS leader, who is in Cochabamba attending the forty-second regular session of the OAS General Assembly, had met on Saturday with the Southern Indigenous Council (Conisur), which is opposed to the highway being built.

The video of the event is available here.
