OAS Secretary General meets with President of Guatemala

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today met with the President of Guatemala, Otto Pérez Molina, within the framework of the Sixth Summit of the Americas to be held this weekend in Cartagena de Indias (Colombia).

During the meeting they discussed the issues on the regional agenda and in particular the main topics of the Summit in Cartagena.

The Guatemalan President explained to Secretary General Insulza the interest of his Government in debating efficacy of the current strategy in the struggle against drug abuse and trafficking.

In addition, President Pérez Molina thanked the Secretary General for the work of the OAS in the Belize-Guatemala territorial dispute. For his part, the chief representative of the OAS reiterated the commitment of the organization to seek a negotiated solution to the issue.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Harold Caballeros, the Ambassador of Guatemala to the OAS, Rodrigo Vielman, the Assistant Secretary General of the OAS, Albert Ramdin, and the Secretary of External Relations of the OAS, Alfonso Quiñonez.
