The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today stressed the role of youth as an agent of change in the Americas during the inaugural speech of the 3rd Youth Forum of the Americas, which is being held in Cartagena, Colombia as part of the Sixth Summit of the Americas.
“We have an active youth that is committed to the development of the Americas. A youth that is not passive, but a youth that takes action, a youth that is thirsty for progress and that will not rest until achieving it. It is our job as well to foment and incite the youth to be agents of change and prosperity in the Americas echoing the theme ‘Youth: Partners for Prosperity,” said Secretary General Insulza.
The chief representative of the OAS noted that the forum involved the participation of more than 3,500 young people, and that the competition TIC Americas, held in parallel with the forum, included more than 8,000 participants, which “establishes this event as the largest to this point focused exclusively on concrete actions by young people.”
Secretary General Insulza pointed out that the Sixth Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas (TIC Americas), organized by the OAS and the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT), and the 3rd Youth Forum of the Americas “are without a doubt a source of pride” for the hemisphere, in that they “open new paths where the talent of our young people emerges through concrete joint work proposals, projects and programs that can be applied immediately and globally for the benefit of all.”
