The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today met with the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamala Persad-Bissessar, in Port-of-Spain.

Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar and Secretary General Insulza talked about the issues to be debated during the Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Public Security in the Americas (MISPA), convened by the OAS and being held tomorrow and Friday in Port-of-Spain. The two officials will participate in the hemispheric event’s inauguration tomorrow alongside the Caribbean country’s Minister of Public Security, John Sandy.

The objective of the third MISPA is to debate and offer recommendations on the situation of police management in the hemisphere, a fundamental issue to make progress towards achieving improved security conditions for the citizens of the Americas. Previous meetings have been held in Mexico in 2007 and in the Dominican Republic in 2009.
