José Miguel Insulza, the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), today met with Diane Ablonczy, Canada’s Minister of State of Foreign Affairs for the Americas and Consular Affairs, at the 41st regular session of the hemispheric organization’s General Assembly, which is taking place in El Salvador on June 5 to 7.

During their meeting, the representative of Canada reassured Secretary General Insulza of her country’s commitment to the Organization: a financial commitment, but also a commitment towards all the work that the OAS carries out, particularly in the realm of security.

They discussed Canada’s support for the numerous projects that the OAS carries out in the region, together with other current political issues in the Hemisphere, including the post-election situation in Haiti, and the Summit of the Americas, which is to take place in Cartagena de Indias on April 14 and 15.
