Secretary General Meets with Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the Americas Delegates

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Jose Miguel Insulza, today met with delegates of the Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the Americas (FIPA) who are guests at the 40th OAS General Assembly currently taking place in Lima.

During the meeting, they congratulated the Secretary General on his reelection as head of the hemispheric organization, touched on issues regarding legislative power in the Americas, and strengthened ties between the two institutions.

FIPA is an independent network of national legislatures of the governments that are members of the OAS, and its mission is to promote parliamentary participation in the Inter-American system and establish an inter-parliamentary dialogue to discuss issues of importance to the entire hemisphere.

The event also was attended by the Panamanian Congressman Victor Juliao, the Ecuadorian Assemblywoman Linda Machuca, the Paraguayan Senator Alberto Grillón and the Speaker of the House of the Assembly of Saint Lucia, Rosemary Mathurin.
