The Working Group on the Protocol of San Salvador concluded today at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS) its first period of sessions corresponding to the analysis of the national reports contained in the Additional Protocol to the American Convention on Human Rights which consecrates economic, social and cultural rights, known as the “Protocol of San Salvador.”

The experts involved highlighted the actions taken by the States Parties of the OAS regarding the implementation of the obligations contained in the Protocol on the presentation of regular reports, as well as the publication of a new reference guide, which when taken together represent an important step toward the consolidation of a system of indicators and signals of progress.

The Working Group communicated that the system seeks to make these indicators a useful instrument in the design and ongoing evaluation of the public policies of member states, intended to ensure compliance with the set of economic, social and cultural rights with a realistic approach of equity and social justice.

The OAS, through the Department for Social Inclusion of the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (SEDI), acts as the Technical Secretariat for the Protocol of San Salvador.
