The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, took part today in the meeting held by the Presidium of the Socialist International in New York.

During the meeting, the members of the leadership of the Socialist International discussed the main issues of the current global political, economic, and social context. The meeting took place within the framework of the 69th United Nations General Assembly.

In his address to the meeting, Secretary General Insulza said poverty and inequality, violence and the environment are the basic issues that should concern everyone, in the Americas and around the world. The meeting was directed by the President of the Socialist International and former Prime Minister of Greece, George Papandreou, and the Secretary General, Chilean Luis Ayala.
