OAS Secretary General Receives the Permanent Observer of the Principality of Liechtenstein

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS ), José Miguel Insulza, today received the Permanent Observer of the Principality of Liechtenstein, Ambassador Claudia Fritsche, at a meeting held at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution in Washington, DC.

During the meeting, the European diplomatic expressed her "satisfaction and pleasure" at participating as Permanent Observer, a status enjoyed by the country since January of this year. She also expressed the interest of her government in collaborating with the hemispheric Organization in areas such as education, sustainable development and human rights.

The OAS leader welcomed the arrival of the European country to the Organization and highlighted the various programs that the OAS develops in the areas highlighted by Ambassador Fritsche.

The two also discussed the Electoral Missions the OAS has deployed and will deploy this year, and the agenda of the next General Assembly of the OAS, to be held in Asuncion, Paraguay, from June 3 to 5.

Also present at the meeting were the Secretary for External Relations of the OAS, Alfonso Quiñónez, and the Director of the Department of International Affairs, Jorge Sanín.
