The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met today with the President of the University of La Rioja, Spain, Miguel Arraufat, at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution in Washington, DC.
The OAS Secretary General and the head of the Spanish university discussed the online courses offered by the study center, a modality that-due to technological changes-has increased in recent years. Secretary General Insulza expressed the interest of the hemispheric Organization in these initiatives and valued distance education as a very important tool that should be taken advantage of by the countries of the region. They also spoke about the possibility that the OAS, through the Educational Portal of the Americas and the Spanish center of studies could explore opportunities to collaborate and offer opportunities for study for Latin American students. The University of La Rioja specializes in teacher training and governance, and has 15,000 students.
Also present at the meeting were the Chief of Staff of the OAS Secretary General, Hugo de Zela; the specialist of the OAS Education Portal, Cecilia Martins; the Director of International Relations at the University of La Rioja, Enrique Lorens; and the Director of Public Relations at the University of La Rioja, Jesús Pedroche.
