The Organization of American States and San Martin de Porres University of Peru today renewed their partnership to carry out the Lecture Series of the Americas program, conferences that focus on issues central to the hemispheric agenda, at a ceremony held at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution in Washington, DC.
OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro welcomed the continuity and highlighted the impact of the initiative, which consists of forums in which high-level personalities share their knowledge and experiences with a broad audience that includes diplomats, public officials, private sector representatives, students, and the general public. "The Lectures seek to enrich the hemispheric debate on the main issues of the hemispheric agenda such as the promotion of democracy and governance, the defense and protection of human rights, the promotion of social and sustainable development and citizen security," added Secretary General Almagro.
For his part, the Rector of San Marin de Porres University, José Chang, thanked the OAS for "renewing this strategic alliance" and expressed his satisfaction for the opportunity to contribute as an academic institution to this forum of debates. "We are sure that these academic discussions that are shared with all youth, educational and social spheres can serve to consolidate our democracies," added Rector Chang.
The Lecture Series of the Americas is a program created in 2004 by the OAS Permanent Council with the objective of contributing to the discussion and analysis of the main issues of the region.
