June 11, 2018
The Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) to the presidential elections in Colombia began its deployment in the country to observe the second round of the elections, to be held on June 17.
Headed by the former Vice President of Costa Rica and the former OAS Secretary for Political Affairs Kevin Casas Zamora, the Mission is made up of 32 international experts and observers of 12 nationalities, who will be present in various departments of the country and the Capital District.
The Mission, which observed the legislative elections and the first round of the presidential vote, will emphasize the issues of electoral organization and technology and will continue the analysis done in May of other key aspects of the process, such as campaign financing and electoral justice. After the election, it will present a consolidated report that will include findings and recommendations of the electoral process on the whole.
This will be the eighteenth election observed by the OAS in Colombia.
