OAS Electoral Experts Mission Deploys to Grenada

The Electoral Experts Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) to the general elections in Grenada, led by OAS Assistant Secretary General Nestor Mendez, began its deployment today ahead of the March 13 poll.

Ambassador Mendez arrives in St. George’s tonight and will lead a team of 6 experts from Belize, Jamaica, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago and the United States. Tomorrow the Chief of Mission and the Supervisor of Elections, Alex Phillip, will sign the Electoral Procedures Agreement which establishes the framework for the work of the Mission in Grenada. The electoral experts will also immediately commence their interactions with stakeholders in-country.

The Experts Mission will focus on analyzing key aspects of the electoral process including the electoral registry, electoral organization and technology, and campaign financing. The team will also gather information about the status of the recommendations made by the OAS Mission to the 2013 elections.
