HISTORIC MEETING OF OAS AND AFRICAN AMBASSADORS

  December 9, 2002

The OAS Permanent Council is convening a special meeting to bring together the permanent representatives and permanent observers to the OAS and the Washington-based representatives of the African countries.

This meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and will look at Western Hemisphere-Africa cooperation around development, trade, democracy and human rights issues.

The first its kind, the event will provide an opportunity for frank and open discussion of the problems shared by the African and American continents and each country’s experience in dealing with those problems. Dean of the African Ambassadors in Washington, Roble Olhaye, Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti will make a special presentation.
