While citizen security has become an ever-increasing concern for many Caribbean countries, the magnitude of the problem has not been matched with an equally robust response in terms of research. This volume analyses new data collected in household and business victimization surveys. 

National Citizen Security and Coexistance Policy and Implementation Strategy was established by the Government of Colombia in 2011. The documento contemplates a social prevention and situational prevention chapter.

A combination of global, regional and local threats facing Latin Americans have given rise to an array of security responses. Some intervention strategies are heavy-handed and focused on restoring law and order, while others emphasize a wide array of preventive measures and are intended to support social cohesion.

Given the strong ties linking citizen security and the development of Latin America and the Caribbean, the Bank has been supporting efforts to tackle crime and violence. It has framed its work in citizen security through the establishment of specific guidelines (Operational Guidelines for Program Design and Execution in the Area of Civic Coexistence and Public Safety, GN-2535), which identify the Bank’s areas of support, as well as those outside its mandate and those for which it does not have a comparative advantage as a development institution.
