"Enhancing Energy Efficiency lighting Standards in Central America: Presentation of technical notes and workshop"

The activity took place on November 6 and 7, at the headquarters of the Central American Integration System (SICA), in San Salvador. This, had approximately 25 participants, including those of members of the TGEE and standardization bodies of 7 SICA countries: Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Honduras.

Also present was Mr. Werner Vargas, executive director of SICA, the National Energy Council of El Salvador (CNE), and Ambassador Edgardo Cuarezma, Minister Counselor of the Nicaraguan embassy in El Salvador.

Presentations by 2 international experts in Energy Efficiency Policy and Regulation of CLASP were exposed during the 2 day event, where they addressed, among others topics: technical note in general lighting lamps, the market study of lighting, harmonization standards, as well as the review of the proposals of international standards.

In addition, both experts conducted a live test with the LightSpion light bulbs equipment from different countries in the region. The activity also included practical examples on how other countries in the world are implementing their EE policy regulations, strategies used for defining MEPS, economic and energy savings of implementing EE regulation initiatives, etc.

This activity was organized by the Organization of the American States in cooperation with the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), CLASP, the Central American Integration System (SICA), and the The National Energy Council of El Salvador (CNE).

The activity is part of the program "Metrology for Energy Efficiency (M4EE-SID1605)" implemented by the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) of the United States.


Objective
This activity aims to officially present the progress of the CLASP project (formerly the Collaborative Program for Labeling Standards and Devices) initiated in June 2019, and also to bring together the standardization counterparts of the member states of the SICA, in order to include its comments in the development of the proposals of the regulations that are being worked on.
