SEVENTH MOAS FOR
STUDENTS OF THE COLOMBIAN
CARIBBEAN REGION

The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS), together with
Universidad del Norte (UNINORTE) of Barranquilla, Colombia,
are organizing the Seventh National MOAS for Students of the Colombian
Caribbean Region. The purpose of this MOAS is to promote democratic values, tolerance and consensus
building among students of the Colombian Caribbean region, while familiarizing them with the work of the
OAS as the premier political forum in the Hemisphere. The MOAS is a simulation
of the OAS General Assembly, in which students represent Member States and
negotiate resolutions on the main topics of the Inter-American Agenda.

The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS), together with
Universidad del Norte (UNINORTE) of Barranquilla, Colombia,
organized the Sixth National MOAS for Students of the Colombian
Caribbean Region. The purpose of this MOAS is to promote democratic values, tolerance and consensus
building among students of the Colombian Caribbean region, while familiarizing them with the work of the
OAS as the premier political forum in the Hemisphere. The MOAS is a simulation
of the OAS General Assembly, in which students represent Member States and
negotiate resolutions on the main topics of the Inter-American Agenda.
The Sixth Model General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS)
(VI MOEA) for students of the Colombian Caribbean, jointly organized with the
Universidad del Norte (UNINORTE) in Barranquilla, Colombia, concluded on
September 23. This model brought together 368 high school students from the
Colombian Caribbean Region and 62 university students. The 34 OAS Member States
were represented by student delegations. Delegations from international
universities participated for the first time in this Model, such as ESAN
University in Peru and the American University of Nicaragua. Inter-American
cooperation to support the peace process in Colombia, migration, gender
equality, youth and organized crime, the Paris agreements on climate change were
some of the topics addressed by the students in their respective commissions.

THIRD DOMINICAN MODEL OF THE INTER-AMERICAN SYSTEM (MODOSI)

The Third Dominican Model of the Inter-American System (MODOSI) for university and high school students of the Dominican Republic was organized jointly by the Organization of American States (OAS) and the United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic (ANU-RD), the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), and the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE). During this MODOSI students debated and issued resolutions about current issues of the inter-American agenda as part of simulation exercises of the OAS General Assembly, the OAS Permanent Council, the Summit of the Americas, and the Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The Department of International Affairs of the OAS (DIA/SER) is supporting the Institute of Public Affairs at Universidad de Chile in the organization of the First National MOAS for High School Students in Chile, with the participation of 30 public and private schools from Santiago and regions from throughout Chile. This MOAS seeks to promote democratic values, tolerance and consensus building among Chilean students, while familiarizing them with the work of the OAS as the premier political forum in the Hemisphere. The MOAS is a simulation of the OAS General Assembly, in which students represent Member States and negotiate resolutions on the main topics of the Inter-American Agenda.

This conference was a simulation of several institutions of the Inter-American system, including the OAS General Assembly, the OAS Permanent Council, the Summit of the Americas, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
