About 300 students accompanied by over 40 faculty advisors fully immersed themselves in this Model and proposed creative solutions to real issues facing the Americas. Ambassador Nestor Mendez, OAS Assistant Secretary General, was the keynote speaker in the opening ceremony. In his remarks, he encouraged the students to pursue a career in public service and focus on finding immediate solutions and multilateral cooperation as strategic necessities of the Americas today. About 10 OAS Specialists briefed the students on the topics of the Model. Awards were granted to five Head Delegates for Best Proponent Speech. MOAS faculty advisors, Rosita Witman and Steve Maczynski, from Georgetown Preparatory School and Javier Ergueta, from Wilmington Friends School, distinguished themselves by winning Awards of Recognition for their continued contribution to the MOAS Program for over 15 years and longer. Ambassador Jacinth Henry-Martin, Coordinator of OAS National Offices, inspired the students to increase their knowledge of OAS Member States, cherish countries' diversity and learn to speak the languages of this hemisphere in her closing remarks.
