Metrology for Sustainable Energy Technologies and the Environment (M4SET)
Energy Efficiency Tour
The activity was held from June 19 to 22, 2018, at the Intertek facilities in Cortlant, New York. The tour saw to provide CROSQ staff and participating metrology institutions from the Caribbean with a technical and financial perspective of the requirements involved in setting up, operating, and managing an energy efficiency testing and certification facility.
The event had the participation of 12 metrology experts from 5 National Metrology Institutes in the CARICOM Region. The activity afforded a first-hand experience on how an energy efficiency laboratory is managed, the manner in which energy efficiency testing, verification, and certification protocols are applied, the capital investment in human and material resources required, and the level of expertise demanded for a successful operation.
The activity was organized by the Organization of American States (OAS) in coordination with CARICOM Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality (CROSQ), Intertek, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
Since 2016, the OAS implements the M4SET project geared toward advancing metrology for sustainable energy technologies and the environment in the Americas. The project contributes to strengthen the measuring capacities of institutions in charge of metrology in energy efficiency, renewable energy, air quality, and greenhouse gases. Activities are designed to expand the uptake of sustainable energy technologies and to foster low carbon growth in the Americas.
