- OAS Member States Approve Draft Declaration on Sustainable
Tourism Development in the Americas
June 29, 2011
The
representatives of the Member States of the Organization of American States
(OAS), at a meeting in Washington, DC, approved the draft Declaration of San
Salvador for Sustainable Tourism Development in the Americas, which will be
considered for final approval by the Ministers and High Authorities of
Tourism in San Salvador on September 29 and 30, 2011, in the framework of
the 19th Inter-American Travel Congress.

Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS),
Albert R. Ramdin, today called on Member States to join forces to promote
regional tourism, since it has "become one of the most important sectors in
the world economy and for many OAS Member States it is the main source of
employment and exports, helping to drive economic growth."

Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CEPCIDI) of the
Organization of American States (OAS) today welcomed the Minister of Tourism
of El Salvador, José Napoleón Duarte, who highlighted the importance of
tourism in fighting poverty, the theme of the XIX Inter-American Travel
Congress to be held September 29 and 30, 2011, in San Salvador.
