About the Workshop

The Organization of American States (OAS) held the workshop entitled: "Awareness to Action: How to Implement CSR in SMEs" on December 10th and 11th, 2014 in Manizales, Colombia, with the aim of empowering Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) on how to integrate CSR into their business strategies.

SMEs are the backbone of the productive structure in the region. In order to better equip SMEs with the knowledge required to navigate in today’s markets, the OAS CSR Program developed a methodology aimed to provide SMEs with tools to implement responsible practices into their business models and to take advantage of the opportunities that new economic, social, and environmental challenges present.

Following a decade of raising awareness on CSR among SMEs in Latin America and the Caribbean, the Program is focusing on CSR implementation in SMEs. The workshops:

  • Offer theory, information and tools for businesses to develop innovative CSR solutions and strategies to improve their competitiveness and access new markets;  and
  • Provide SMEs with the knowledge to develop a tailor-made CSR action plan for their own company which is implemented over the subsequent six months with the support of the CSR Program.

The workshop is part of the CSR program of the OAS "Promoting Corporate Social Responsibility in Latin America and the Caribbean," financed by the Government of Canada and organized in collaboration with the Canadian Embassy in Colombia; Ministerio de Comercio, Industria y Turismo de Colombia; CONFAMILIARES; ANDI; Cámara de Comercio de Manizales por Caldas; and Corporación Fenalco Solidario Colombia.
