Happy World Teacher’s Day!
Teachers + SDGs = Opportunities for All

Empowering teachers, building sustainable societies” is the World Teachers' Day slogan for 2015.

During the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit this past September, 190 countries of the world committed to work to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. One of the 17 goals is to “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”. Education, and therefore teaching, both play a vital role in this global effort.

Teachers: you are the key to inspiring your students and transforming the world! ITEN sincerely thanks you for your commitment and invites you to continue taking action. Let’s collaborate and build a better future together. Join us in our community of practice!

The ITEN Audio series "Critical Thinking for Teachers" has been launched!

Listen to the conversation between three teachers and learn new ideas for your classroom with our audio program.

The Inter-American Teacher Education Network launched a new audio program for teachers. The series, “Critical Thinking for Teachers”, is available free of charge to teachers and other educators interested in improving critical thinking skills among their students and is designed for use by individuals or in groups. In three countries, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Belize, ministries of education and/or non-governmental organizations are implementing the audio program with teacher professional development networks, taking advantage of audio’s flexibility to deliver high-quality teacher professional development at low costs. ITEN wants to know!

Within the framework of UNESCO´s World Teacher's Day, stakeholders around the world will be discussing teacher professional development and their work conditions. We would like to know your opinion on what teachers' priorities are:

a. Better salary
b. Better initial preparation
c. Better professional development
d. Better infrastructure for the development of their work
e. More social recognition
f. More work benefits and incentives
g. Better health programs
h. All of the above

Answer this question in our virtual community!

Last month, we asked:

"As part of the celebration of International Literacy Day ITEN wants to know: What do we understand by Literacy today?"

100% of the participating teachers indicated that literacy is alphabet knowledge and word recognition, reading comprehension, and ability to interpret texts, present arguments, and generate original ideas.

We invite you to keep sharing your opinion here.
