The Archives of the Organization of American
States (OAS) are records that have sufficient historical value to warrant their
continued preservation. The records in the custody of the Columbus Memorial
Library document the origins and evolution of the Organization from its
beginnings as the International Union of American Republics in 1889 to the Pan
American Union in 1910 and finally to the Organization of American States in
All original Inter-American conventions, treaties, agreements, final acts of
conferences and other documents of the Inter-American System that have been
deposited with the General Secretariat of the OAS, together with other historic
and valuable materials, are maintained.
This collection consists of 2,000 cubic feet and dates from 1889 to the present.
