culture is influenced by indigenous and European cultures. Most of the
music and representative folklore comes from the north of the country,
which is highly influenced by the Mayan culture. Music in Costa Rica
uses a rhythm known as tambito and a genre called punto.
Costa Ricans refer to
themselves as "ticos" coming from the accustomed form of using
diminutive words in daily conversations. Ethnic origins of Costa Rica
blends native indigenous with European and Afro-Caribbean immigrants.
