Final Report

The celebration of this first meeting responded to a mandate contained in the Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities and reaffirmed by the General Assembly in its resolution AG/RES.2167 (XXXVI-O/06) of June 2006. This resolution requests the Secretary-General, in accordance with Article VI of the Convention, to convene the first meeting of the Committee and submit to the Member States, through the OAS Permanent Council, a proposal for the necessary documents for its implementation.

On December 18th, 2006, the Permanent Council accepted the site and date proposed by the government of Panama for the First Meeting of CEDDIS, which was held from February 28th to March 1st, 2007 in Panama City.

This meeting adopted the basic documents for the development of the Committee's work, such as the Rules of Procedure (CEDDIS/doc.4/07 rev. 3), the General Orientation on the Content of the Reports of States Parties in the Inter-American Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (CEDDIS/doc.5 rev. 1), and the Committee’s Methodology of Work (CEDDIS/doc.29/07).

This first meeting was attended by delegations from the following States Parties: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela.return
