Final Report

The celebration of this first meeting responded to a mandate contained in the Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities and reaffirmed by the General Assembly in its resolution AG/RES.2167 (XXXVI-O/06) of June 2006. This resolution requests the Secretary-General, in accordance with Article VI of the Convention, to convene the first meeting of the Committee and submit to the Member States, through the OAS Permanent Council, a proposal for the necessary documents for its implementation.

On December 18^th, 2006, the Permanent Council accepted the site and date proposed by the government of Panama for the First Meeting of CEDDIS, which was held from February 28^th to March 1^st, 2007 in Panama City.

This meeting adopted the basic documents for the development of the Committee's work, such as the Rules of Procedure (CEDDIS/doc.4/07 rev. 3), the General Orientation on the Content of the Reports of States Parties in the Inter-American Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (CEDDIS/doc.5 rev. 1), and the Committee’s Methodology of Work (CEDDIS/doc.29/07).

This first meeting was attended by delegations from the following States Parties: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela.
