Special Rapporteurship on Economic, Social, Cultural, and Environmental Rights
Washnigton, D.C. - The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), through its Office of the Special Rapporteur on Economic, Social, Cultural, and Environmental Rights (REDESCA), invites member states of the Organization of American States (OAS), civil organizations, academic institutions, international human rights entities, and other interested parties to actively participate in formulating the Work Plan for the period 2024 - 2026. Participation involves completing an online questionnaire, and the responses will be crucial in shaping future initiatives and objectives.
The online consultation seeks input and suggestions from both OAS member states and non-governmental entities to enhance the effectiveness of REDESCA in its work. The goal is to strategically address emerging challenges in the realm of Economic, Social, Cultural, and Environmental Rights (ESCER) in the Americas. Additionally, it aims to explore opportunities for collaborative initiatives. This questionnaire is one of several consultation methods employed by REDESCA to identify proposals, strategies, and priority themes related to ESCER in the Americas context.
The new Work Plan will serve as the cornerstone guiding REDESCA's management by institutionalizing focus areas and priorities during the 2024-2026 period. A situational diagnosis, the definition of objectives, and expectations regarding the role of the Rapporteurship will be conducted to identify necessary innovations for REDESCA to continue addressing challenges related to ESCER in the Americas.
This process aligns with the guidelines of the IACHR's 2023-2027 Strategic Plan, also harmonizing with the Agenda 2030 and OAS General Assembly mandates related to ESCER. This alignment enables the Office of the Special Rapporteur to strengthen synergy among the various mandates, functions, and mechanisms of the IACHR, aiming to effectively promote and safeguard ESCER in the Americas.
To participate in the consultation, individuals can respond to the questionnaire available at the provided link until 23:59 GMT-5 on February 4, 2024 (the deadline has been extended until February 14 23:59 GMT-5). Responses can be sent via email to [email protected], with the subject line: "Online Consultation Questionnaire REDESCA Work Plan".
REDESCA appreciates in advance the contributions received, which will be analyzed with great interest. For any inquiries or additional information, contact can be made through the email [email protected].
