It was established by the REMJA in 1999 as the principal hemispheric forum to strengthen international cooperation in the prevention, investigation and prosecution of cybercrime; facilitate the exchange of information and experiences among its members; and make necessary recommendations to enhance and ensure efforts to combat these crimes.

consider and carry out the mandates received from the REMJA.

report to the REMJA on progress made in fulfilling its mandates.

facilitate the exchange of information and experiences.

strengthen cooperation among the authorities participating therein.

To make recommendations to enhance and strengthen cooperation
among the OAS member states and with international organizations and mechanisms. The Working Group meets at least once during the interval between REMJA meetings. All meetings have taken place at OAS Headquarters in Washington D.C. It is the Internet page created primarily to facilitate and streamline cooperation and information exchange among government experts from OAS member states with responsibilities in the area of cybercrime or in international cooperation for its investigation and prosecution. The Portal currently consists of: - A public component, which contains information on the national legislation of OAS member states in the area of cybercrime, as well as on action taken within the OAS related essentially to regional and international training workshops, meetings of the Working Group, and other technical cooperation programs. - A private component, which is password protected and contains information exclusively of interest to the government experts from OAS member states with responsibilities in the area of cybercrime or in international cooperation for its investigation and prosecution.
