Technical Workshops Following the Fifth Meeting
At
its fifth meeting, held on November 19 and 20, 2007, the Working Group on
Cyber-crime, one of the REMJA working groups, recommended that training be
provided to strengthen the capacity of OAS member states with respect to the
continued development of legislation and procedural measures related to
cyber-crime and electronic evidence, and the investigation and prosecution of
cyber-crimes.
Pursuant to this recommendation, two Regional Technical
Workshops focused on the drafting of cyber-crime legislation were organized and
held in 2008. The first, which took
place in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago and funded by the United States,
targeted OAS Caribbean member states.
The second workshop, which was directed toward OAS Latin American member
states, took place in Bogotá, Colombia, and was made possible thanks
to the joint efforts of the Colombian Ministry of External Relations, the
General Secretariat of the OAS, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the Council
of Europe by Colombia and funded by the
Council of Europe and the United States, was directed toward OAS Latin American
member states.
