The legal framework created by the Inter-American System for Protection of Human Rights has been established as the most protective of the different existing regional systems. Article 13 of the American Convention on Human Rights assigns great importance to freedom of expression. The same is true of the American Declaration of the Rights and Duties of Man, Article IV, and the Inter-American Democratic Charter, Article 4.
