Program to increase the capacities of analysts and investigators from OAS member states on specialized techniques related to the development and analysis of counterdrug intelligence, in order to enhance their abilities to investigate and dismantle drug criminal organizations. 

CICAD's Supply Reduction Unit (CICAD/SRU) provides specialized capacity building and technical assistance to OAS member states through two regional schools:

  • Regional Counterdrug Intelligence School of the Americas (ERCAIAD, known by its Spanish language acronym); and 
  • Caribbean Counterdrug Intelligence Training School (CCITS).
Objectives
  • Increase capacities to develop, analyze, and share operational, strategic, and prospective counterdrug intelligence; and
  • Increase cooperation and information exchange between counterdrug agencies to counter drug trafficking in the region.
Activities
  • National and regional workshops on the development, analysis, and exchange of strategic, operational, and prospective counterdrug police intelligence;
  • Virtual capacity-building courses for counterdrug investigators and analysists through ERCAIAD’s secured platform and the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI) Connect Learning Management System;
  • Technical assistance for counterdrug agencies of the region to strengthen their capacity to counter drug trafficking; and
  • Publication of reference materials and documents to increase inter-institutional coordination, and the effectiveness of counterdrug investigations and operations in the region.
