On July 31st the 44th Course on International Law was inaugurated in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, an annual academic activity that is organized by the Inter-American Juridical Committee and the Department of International Law (Secretariat for Legal Affairs) of the OAS. At the opening ceremony, the 42 students who are participating this year were welcomed by the Chairman of the Inter-American Juridical Committee (CJI), Dr. Hernán Salinas; Ambassador João Clemente Baena Soares, member of the Committee and former Secretary General of the OAS; and the Director of the Department of International Law, Dr. Dante Negro. The event was also attended by diplomatic and consular authorities of the Member States as well as by Brazilian professors and academics.

During the three week course, participants will receive instruction on various topics in the field of international law, both public and private, as well as new legal developments in the inter-American system. Classes will be taught by a select group of professors from different countries from within the region.
