The vast majority of young people in vulnerable situations belong to historically discriminated groups: indigenous peoples, Afro-descendants, LGBTI people, migrants or refugees, people with disabilities and rural youth, among others. The Department of Social Inclusion supports other areas of the OAS to reach those young people from groups in situations of vulnerability who have been left out or are at risk of being neglected, involve them and take advantage of their energy and talent so that they too can enjoy the same rights and opportunities as their peers, and can participate and be fully appreciated as contributing members of society.

Since 2015, the projects of the Department of Social Inclusion incorporate the perspective of groups in vulnerable situations.

Objectives

By applying an intersectional approach, ensure that OAS support programs and activities address the perspective of young people from groups in situations of vulnerability.

Activities
  • Highlight the situation of young people in vulnerable situations through publications and technical notes.
  • Support OAS member states in identifying the challenges of young people in vulnerable situations and supporting them in the creation of inclusive policies.
  • Provide opportunities for the participation of young people from groups in vulnerable situations in OAS activities, such as the Digital Diploma in Leadership in Social Inclusion and Access to Rights.
