Support the member states of the LGBTI Core Group of the OAS and the states that are part of the Inter-American Convention against All Forms of Discrimination and Intolerance. Additionally, it supports the creation of a more inclusive Americas and a more inclusive OAS General Secretariat. 

In this program, an intersectional approach is applied to all the issues dealt with by the Department to ensure the incorporation of the LGBTI lens in all projects and activities that are worked on to cover the equity and inclusion agenda in a more holistic and realistic way. 

Objectives
  • Work together with the member states of the OAS LGBTI Core Group, created in 2016, to raise awareness among the general public about the realities faced by LGBTI people in the region and showcase LGBTI-inclusive policies in the region. 
  • Support the areas of the OAS General Secretariat to ensure that an LGBTI inclusive approach is incorporated in the formulation of projects and activities in the hemisphere. 
  • Promote signatures and ratifications of the Inter-American Convention against All Forms of Discrimination and Intolerance 
Activities
  • Organization of workshops with the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) on the incorporation of the perspective of LGBTI people into OAS projects and programs. 
  • Preparation of documents and teaching materials that reflect the realities of LGBTI people in the Americas to promote measures to support their greater inclusion.
  • Organization of information sessions, workshops and webinars. 
  • Support Member States in developing inclusive policies for LGBTI people
