The Regional Disability Observatory is a platform that systematizes the information collected during the monitoring cycles of the Inter-American Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (CIADDIS), and the Program of Action for the Decade of Disabilities. the Americas for the Rights and Dignity of People with Disabilities (PAD), which are held every four years.

Users of the observatory can access information according to thematic axes, indicators and standardized criteria, facilitating the identification of data of interest, and allowing the evolutionary line of each country to be analyzed with respect to its progress reported every four years.

The observatory is a great tool for the preparation of academic reports, diagnoses and statistics that promote legislative improvements or adaptations in public policies that are compatible with international human rights conventions.

Objectives

Provide information on the situation of people with disabilities in the Americas in terms of access to rights and encourage, based on available data, scientific research, the generation of statistics, the production of comparative analyses, and the promotion of legislative reforms. or public policies that are harmonized with the principles of CIADDIS and the PAD.
Promote the exchange of good practices among OAS member states.
Disseminate information on policies, programs, legislation and good practices in favor of people with disabilities in the Member States, to promote greater participation of people with disabilities and civil society organizations in these initiatives.

Activities

Development of the platform together with the Saraki Foundation.
Incorporation of data from three rounds of reports (2010-2015-2019) into the platform.
Digitization of the CIADDIS and PAD monitoring process so that the information presented by States in their compliance reports automatically feeds into the Observatory.
