Over 500 new Scholarships for Masters and Doctoral Programs available in Brazil

Scholarships in BrasilIn collaboration with the Coimbra Group of Brazilian Universities (GCUB), the OAS is offering once again an opportunity for citizens of the Americas to access to over 500 academic scholarships for masters and doctoral degrees in over 40 Brazilian universities. Classes begin the first or second half of 2015 and the application deadline is August 6, 2014.

This is the fourth consecutive edition of the Partnerships Program for Education and Training of the OAS (PAEC) OAS-GCUB. Since its first edition, the Program has awarded a total of 484 scholarships for masters and doctoral degrees in 41 universities in Brazil to students from 24 countries of the Americas.

With the support of the Division of Educational Issues of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, the scholarships program aims to promote greater integration of Brazilian universities with other countries in the region. It also seeks to support scientific and cultural exchange, internationalization and student mobilization for human development in the Americas.

A particularity of this edition is that for the first time, an OAS-SEDI supported scholarship program will offer access to programs in the health care field, as the result of an agreement signed between the OAS and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) earlier this year.  TThrough this partnership, the OAS, PAHO and GCUB seek to strengthen the technical and research abilities of those working in the field of health.

"This is an exciting opportunity to support our youth’s development and advance regional integration and collaboration. The OAS-SEDI and the GCUB continue to open doors to a more prosperous and rewarding future for our youth,” said Executive Secretary for Integral Development Sherry Tross.

The OAS-GCUB 2014 scholarships cover tuition fees, a monthly stipend orliving expenses, and a one-time grant to cover costs of arrival (offered only to the first 125 selected fellows). As classes are taught in Portuguese, the program also offers language learning support in host universities.

“The amount of classes and the demand from teachers were exhausting, yet, each time a class ended and I saw my grade I felt very proud. I felt that I was fulfilling the OAS program and that I was personally uplifting the name of my country. (...) this scholarship has given a lot of value to my life. I have gained many new experiences and definitely advise everyone to apply to the program, because it will always be a GAIN"
