National Legislation*
The [Inter-American Program for the Promotion and Protection
of the Human Rights of Migrants, including Migrant Workers
and their Families], in its specific activity number 29,
mandates the Secretariat for Legal Affairs (SLA) to
“compile and disseminate on its website current national
migration legislation, policies, and requirements” of the
Member States of the Organization, with the purpose of
encouraging awareness and a technical, political and
comparative dialogue on the matter.
The database prepared by the Department of International Law
contains information pertaining to 18 Member States. [The database] will be complemented in the near
future so as to include the rest of the OAS member states.
Specific information on the migration policies and
requirements of the member states will also be posted soon.
We would like to express our recognition to the UNHCR, whose
database has been a fundamental resource in compiling this
information.
In accordance with the Inter-American Program for the
Promotion and Protection of the Human Rights of Migrants,
including Migrant Workers and their Families, the database
contained in this site is intended for the purposes of
dissemination. It therefore lacks legal authority. The
information provided attempts to reflect as accurately as
possible the main pieces of legislation on the
subject-matter in each of the countries, as well as some
secondary regulations, without being exhaustive or
thoroughly comprehensive. It should also be noted that
changes in the internal legislation of the countries may
occur which might alter the validity of the legal norms
contained in this database.
