Project to strengthen the professional capacities of first responders to prevent, identify, assist and refer victims of human trafficking.

To this end, an online, self-directed, topic-focused course was developed and delivered to the national authority on trafficking. The course was incorporated into the digital platform of the national governing body on trafficking for the continuous training of professionals entering work directly or indirectly linked to human trafficking.

In addition, the Department of Public Security of the OAS, the government and civil society jointly prepared a Guide for the Comprehensive Assistance of LGBTIQ+ Adult Persons Victims of Trafficking in Persons in Guatemala, which was launched and disseminated at the national level.


Objectives

To increase institutional capacities, especially of first responders, to properly identify, assist and protect LGBTIQ+ persons and other victims of trafficking in persons in Guatemala

Activities
  • Assessment of the type, quality, and accessibility of the existing assistance and protection services for victims of trafficking in persons available in Guatemala;
  • Development of a guide on the assistance and protection of victims of trafficking in persons that are members of the LGBTIQ+ community;
  • Raise awareness among professionals in the areas of health, social assistance, migration, security, and justice, about comprehensive assistance of victims of trafficking in persons that are members of the LGBTIQ+ community;
  • Development of an online training tool for frontline actors to better their skills in identifying, assisting and protecting and referring victims of trafficking in persons to the existing services in Guatemala.
