Access to Information Legislation

In the Americas there are 22 countries that in 2015 have a law that enshrines - more or less broadly - the right of access to public information: Antigua and Barbuda, Brazil, Belize, Canada, Colombia, Chile, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, St. Vincent, Trinidad and Tobago, United States of America, and Uruguay. In addition, other countries have passed laws that, while not specifically classified as access to information laws, regulate some aspects of this area. Finally, there are cases in the region where, given the lack of specific regulations on the subject, this right is governed by the provisions contained in the Constitution.
