Justice Ministers and Attorneys General to Meet in April

The Seventh Meeting of Ministers of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas (REMJA VII) will be held April 28 through April 30, 2008 at OAS headquarters in Washington, DC.

The first session of the meeting will be dedicated to following up on the recommendations made at REMJA VI. Topics to be addressed in this session will include the Hemispheric Plan of Action against Transnational Organized Crime and reports from the meetings of the working groups dedicated to cyber-crime, mutual assistance/extradition, forensic science, and penitentiaries/prisons. In addition, the progress on the Hemispheric Information Exchange Network for Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters and Extradition and a report from the Justice Studies Center of the Americas (JSCA) will be presented. Reports will also be made regarding hemispheric cooperation against trafficking in persons and cooperation on family and child law.

The second session of the meeting will be dedicated to a dialogue between heads of delegations on the issues of mutual legal assistance, extradition, asset seizure and other cooperation in combating hemispheric trends, including drug trafficking, corruption, transnational crimes.

Cyber-Crime Working Group to Hold Legislation Workshop for Caribbean Region

The Working Group of Governmental Experts on Cyber-crime will hold a regional workshop on cyber-crime legislation in Trinidad and Tobago on May 13-15, 2008. 

The purpose of the workshop is to strengthen the capacity of OAS member states in the continued development of legislation and procedural measures related to cyber-crime and electronic evidence.  

The Working Group, established in the framework of the Meetings of Ministers of Justice or of Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas (REMJA), is currently being chaired by the United States. For more information, please visit the Inter-American Cooperation Portal on Cyber-Crime.
