OAS General Assembly to focus on Development with Social Inclusion

Every year, Ministers of Foreign Affairs from OAS Member States gather at the General Assembly - the supreme organ of the Organization - to discuss priority issues for the Americas and agree on strategies to move the region forward. This year’s OAS General Assembly, to be held in Paraguay, June 3 to 5, will focus on “Development with Social Inclusion”.

Announcing the Assembly theme at OAS headquarters, Paraguay's Foreign Minister Eladio Loizaga stressed that “development with Social Inclusion is a cross-cutting topic for all of Latin America and the Caribbean” He further stated that countries. “need to revitalize efforts to obtain concrete and effective results without delay and, to do so, we want to focus on areas such as the eradication of poverty; inequality reduction and social exclusion; access to education and ensuring overall health” he further added that the region must “dare to dream about eradicating poverty by the year 2020”.  » Read more

New training opportunities through the OAS Educational Portal of the Americas

OAS Welcomes partners from the Mobiles for Education Alliance

With a network of more than 180,000 registered users and nearly 27,000 trained participants, the Educational Portal of the OAS has contributed to human development in the Americas for more than a decade. This year, between March and June, the OAS-SEDI is offering more than 20 online courses through its Educational Portal on topics related to the quality of education, public administration, gender equality, youth policy and disability, sustainable tourism and business training. » Read more

         

New "Panama Green Label" to promote sustainable production in businesses

Cooperation in social protection: exchanging experiences, expanding opportunities

The government of Panama announced the launch of the new "Panama Green Label" to be developed by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MICI) and the Union of Industrialists of Panama (SIP) with support and technical assistance from the OAS-SEDI Department of Sustainable Development. The Label - announced on March 19, 2014 at the IX International Symposium on Cleaner Production, co-sponsored by the OAS - seeks to promote the implementation of sustainable production processes and environmentally respectful products by companies. » Read more

The Cooperative Model as a Driver of Economic Growth with Equity

Cooperation in social protection: exchanging experiences, expanding opportunities

Member States have repeatedly recognized the value of Cooperatives “to contribute to economic growth, job creation, and poverty alleviation in the countries of the Hemisphere” (VI Summit of the Americas 2012 and General Assembly 2013). On March 20, 2014, over 160 participants gathered at OAS headquarters in Washington DC to explore the next steps for promoting and strengthening the cooperative model in the region at the conference “Cooperatives in the Americas: Driving Economic Growth with Equity and Inclusion”.
