On
June 23, 2006 Peru signed a Memorandum of Understanding with
Mexico to cooperate in information and communication technology (ICT).
This Memorandum will benefit us because, as it involves a Latin
American country with similar characteristics, the best solutions to
common problems can be identified jointly.
Regarding this, the Deputy Minister of
Communications, Dr. Juan Antonio Pacheco-Romaní, indicated that this
Memorandum is a manifestation of the intent to start technical
cooperation activities, because it will provide a major incentive to
promote the development of ICTs in the poorest areas of both countries.
He added that topics of interest for both parties
have been identified, such as sharing experiences and models, in order
to implement the best practices in the regulatory, economic and
technical sector of telecommunications and ICTs.
“It is an opportunity to exchange experiences,
highlight the progress achieved in the telecommunication sector of
both countries, as well as learn about the policies adopted to promote
the development of telecommunications,” he asserted
Furthermore, continued the Deputy Minister of
Communications, topics such as community access to ICTs, rural
telecommunications, policymaking and regulation of telecommunications
and service convergence, administration of radio spectrum, wireless
communications, and cybersecurity shall also be dealt with
The Memorandum shall be for five years, which can
be renewed, and provides for the following cooperation activities:
exchange of information on ICT breakthroughs and staff, study tours,
and training programs
The Mexican Ambassador to Peru, Antonio
Villegas-Villalobos, and the Deputy Minister of Communications, Juan
Pacheco-Romaní, signed the Memorandum of Understanding in the
framework of the VII Meeting of Permanent Consultative Committee II,
Radiocommunication including Broadcasting, which is being held in our
country.
