1. Summary |
In
Mexico numerous studies of the vegetation have been carried out and have
been developed numerous classifications, approximating the type of
vegetation. Some of them are accompanied for cartographical
representations. The maps generated represent different aspects of the
vegetation and the cover. Some of them show the distribution of the
original vegetation, while other illustrate the combination of the
vegetation cover with the present use of the soil. A lot of the Mexican
vegetation classifications went elaborate with different foci, because of
that, the historic comparison presents limitations. As result of the
diverse studies carried out to describe the vegetation cover, the flora and
vegetation of Mexico, from 1900 to the 2000, have been identified more than
two thousand terms to describe different vegetation units of the country.
For the present project will work in the interpretation of the main
classifications at present in use, and they will be translated to the
standard format of the Interamerican Network of Information upon the
biodiversity. The main objective is to feed the data base of IABIN, where
the main terms described for Mexico will be stored.
