1. “Introductory Course on International
Humanitarian Law”
The Department of International Law (DIL) recently
published the book “Introductory Course on
International Humanitarian Law.” This is an English
translation—done with the assistance of the ICRC—of
a previously published book, and includes
presentations made at the First Introductory Course
on International Humanitarian Law, held on January
31, 2007.
The volume also contains a compilation of the
principal instruments in the field of international
humanitarian law, thereby offering in a single book
a summary of the introduction to the doctrine and
basic legal sources of this branch of international
law.
With this publication, the Department of
International Law and the International Committee of
the Red Cross have made this material available to
English-speaking readers, contributing to broader
dissemination of the subject.
2. Reprint of the OAS Charter
The DIL is currently
working on a new printing of 500 copies of the OAS
Charter in a bilingual Spanish/English edition. This
pocket-sized edition helps disseminate the
Organization’s basic document more widely, and is
distributed free of charge.
3. Upcoming publications
Following the practice of prior years, the
publication of the XXXVI Course on International
Law, held in August 2009, will be edited and
distributed during 2010.
With respect to the publication of the Workshops on
International Law, this year there will be a
combined publication covering the workshops held in
Campo Grande, Brazil, in November 2008, and those
held in San José, Costa Rica, in February 2010.
4. Virtual bookstore
The DIL catalog of publications contains about 26
available titles of works published in previous
years. That information is available on our website:
http://www.oas.org/dil/publications_catalogue.htm.
