Workshop on International Law
The Department of International Law (DIL) organized
the tenth Workshop on International Law from
February 2-5, 2010. This year the workshop took
place in San José, Costa Rica, at the headquarters
of the Inter-American Institute of Human Rights.

76th Regular Session of the Inter-American Juridical Committee
 The
Inter-American Juridical Committee (CJI) held its
76th regular session in Lima, Peru, from March
15-24, 2010, at the invitation of the Government of
Peru. Although the Committee has its headquarters in
Rio de Janeiro, in special cases it may decide to
meet elsewhere.

Inter-American Program for the Development of International Law
The Department of International Law (DIL)
presented its report on implementation of the
Inter-American Program for the Development of
International Law at the meeting of the
Permanent Council’s Committee on Juridical and
Political Affairs on April 8, 2010.

Afro-descendents
On January 22, 2010, the Department of International
Law organized the first Expert Workshop on People
of African Descent in the Americas. The event
took place in the DIL conference room. The purpose
of the event was to produce a technical-legal
document that could subsequently be used as a
reference by representatives of African-descent
organizations...

Access to Information
The Department of International Law (DIL) organized
the third meeting of the Group of Experts on
Access to Information from March 16-18, 2010, to
finish drafting the Model Inter-American Law on
Access to Public Information and its respective
guide for implementation.

Refugees
On February 17, 2010, the Department of
International Law (DIL) organized the second
Course on International Refugee Law, which took
place in the framework of the Committee on Juridical
and Political Affairs (CAJP) of the OAS Permanent
Council. The course was held in the Padilha Vidal
Room of the OAS General Secretariat headquarters
building in Washington, D.C.

International Criminal Court
The Department of International Law (DIL) organized
the sixth working session on the International
Criminal Court, which was held on January 27 at
OAS headquarters in the framework of the Permanent
Council’s Committee on Juridical and Political
Affairs, in execution of the mandate of the Assembly
on “Promotion of the International Criminal Court”
in resolution AG/RES. 2505 (XXXIX-O/09).

Fourth Course on International Humanitarian Law (IHL)
was held on January 28 and 29, 2010 and
the next day there was a Special Session of the
Committee on Juridical and Political Affairs on IHL.

The

in the
third colloquium on secured transactions of the
United Nations Commission on International Trade Law
(UNCITRAL) from March 1-3, 2010, at the UNCITRAL
headquarters in Vienna.
