Inter-American Program for the Development of International Law
The
Department of International Law (DIL) presented
its report on implementation of the Inter-American
Program for the Development of International Law
at the meeting of the Permanent Council’s Committee
on Juridical and Political Affairs on April 8, 2010.
This Program was adopted by the OAS General Assembly
in Lima, Peru in 1997, in accordance with the
principles and purposes set forth in the OAS
Charter, bearing in mind the 1996 Panama Declaration
on the Inter-American Contribution to the
Development and Codification of International Law.
The Program’s objective is to implement activities
in the Hemisphere for the dissemination of
inter-American treaties, the legal development of
OAS organs, the teaching of inter-American and
international law, the dissemination of
publications, and cooperation for development.
The DIL has had the primary responsibility for
implementing the program since its adoption, and
over the past 12 years it has initiated a variety of
activities in compliance with it.
