International Criminal Court
The Department of International Law (DIL) organized
the sixth working session on the International
Criminal Court, which was held on January 27 at
OAS headquarters in the framework of the Permanent
Council’s Committee on Juridical and Political
Affairs, in execution of the mandate of the Assembly
on “Promotion of the International Criminal Court”
in resolution AG/RES. 2505 (XXXIX-O/09).
Presenters at the event were the Director of the
Secretariat of the Assembly of the States Parties to
the Statute, Dr. Renán Villacis; the Rapporteur of
the Inter-American Juridical Committee, Dr. Mauricio
Herdocia Sacasa; Dr. Miriam Spitter, Adviser on
International Legal Cooperation of the Office of the
Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court; Dr.
Marco Gerardo Monroy Cabra, expert invited by the
Government of Colombia; Dr. Francesca Varda,
Regional Coordinator for the Americas of the
organization “Coalition for the International
Criminal Court”; Deputy Sigfredo Reyes, Vice
President of the National Assembly of El Salvador
and member of Parliamentarians for Global Action
(PGA); and Patrick Zahnd, Hemisphere Legal Adviser
of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Also present were delegates of the permanent
missions, and the chair of the CAJP noted the
presence of Senator Raynell Andreychuck, Chair of
the Human Rights Committee of the Senate of Canada
and the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of
Colombia, Adriana Mejía. The meeting had a
high-level dialogue segment to discuss issues of
interest to the region that will be addressed during
the Review Conference of the Rome Statute, to be
held from May 31 to June 11 in Kampala, Uganda.
The DIL prepared the report of the meeting, which
was distributed as document
CP/CAJP-2811/10 rev.1.
