The Department of Sustainable Development of the Organization of American States (DSD/OAS) considers efficient, renewable, and environmentally friendly energy generation and use a key component of sustainable development. The DSD/OAS serves as the Technical Secretariat for the Renewable Energy in the Americas (REIA) Initiative.

                                       

REIA offers government officials access to information on renewable energy and energy efficient technologies, and serves as a point of contact for the private sector into the energy sector in the Americas. REIA carries out institutional and technical capacity building programs, sponsors periodic conferences and workshops on sustainable energy technologies, and executes projects and activities.
