Visit to La Rejoya Community, Flores, Peten

Following an incident between members of the Guatemalan La Rejoya community and the Belize Defense Force at the beginning of the month, OAS Officials were deployed to the area to de-escalate tensions. The conflict was diffused as a result of effective OAS mediation efforts. This successful outcome was followed by a high-level visit to the community led by Foreign Minister Carlos Raul Morales of Guatemala who met with the community and religious leaders. Deputy Foreign Minister Alexis Rosado of Belize also visited the area and met with members of the Belize Defense Force who were patrolling the Adjacency Zone.
