NOTE TO ALL APPLICANTS TO OAS SCHOLARSHIPS

ONLY COMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED

To apply for an OAS – GIMI scholarship, the applicant must fill out the OAS online application form and attach the following required supporting documentation:

1. Copy of bachelor's degree diploma

2. Copy of bachelor's degree transcript (record of grades)

3. One (1) recommendation letter

4. Curriculum vitae or resume

5. Response to essay question

6. Proof of English, Spanish, French or Portuguese proficiency, if required

7. Proof of additional funds

8. Copy of a government issued ID (passport or national ID Card)

Please note the following:

a) All documents must be in English or officially translated to English.

b) Proof of English proficiency, if required:
    Participants whose native language is not English will be required to submit one of the following as proof of English proficiency:

    • An official transcript verifying completion of studies in an English speaking university in the last five years;
    • A test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a score of 570 or higher for the paper-based test, 230 for computer-based test, or an internet-based TOEFL (IBT) score of at least 89
       Note: The date stated on the TOEFL or IELTS certificate must be within two years of your proposed start date.
    • IELTS 6.5, or the equivalent
    • Other standard English proficiency certificates

c) Proof of French proficiency, if required:
     Preuve de maîtrise du français, si applicable – les étudiants dont la langue maternelle n’est pas le français doivent soumettre un des documents suivants comme preuve de maitrise du 
     français:

    1. Attestation démontrant que vous avez fait vos études secondaire en français;
    2. Une copie officielle du relevé de notes démontrant l’achèvement des études dans une université francophone au cours des cinq dernières années ;
    3. Test de français international (TFI) avec un résultat total de 605 ou plus;
    4. Test de Connaissance du Français (TCF) – au moins niveau B2;
    5. Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française (DELF) – au moins niveau B2;

d)  Proof of Portuguese proficiency, if required:
      Prova de proficiência em português, se necessário.

                    a.  Certificação de Proficiência em Língua Portuguesa (CELPE-Bras);

e)
Proof of Spanish proficiency, if required /
     Prueba de nivel de Español, si aplica.

    1. Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE);

f) Proof of Additional Funds – proof that you have sufficient funds to cover remaining local expense fee, estimated at USD 3,400 based on double occupancy and USD 4,600  
     based on single occupancy, and other costs not covered by the scholarship by including one, or a combination, of the following documents with your scholarship application:

  • a copy of a rental agreement on property showing you as the property owner;
  • a copy of a bank statement or bank letter;
  • a letter from an employer showing a monthly or yearly salary;
  • a letter showing a student loan or additional scholarship(s), grants, financial aid.

g) One letter of recommendation: one letter from a university professor or one from a current or most recent employer that includes: the letterhead of the University/Institution, the
     Professor’s/Employer’s position within the University/Institution, date and signature. The recommendation letter should be addressed to the OAS Scholarship and Training 
     Programs, Department of Human Development, Education and Employment.

h) You are required to respond to the following essay question. The essay should be written in English and have a minimum of 800 characters (not words) and a maximum of 2900 
     characters, including spaces.

Essay Question: Describe how participating in this course will enhance your professional skills, and directly impact institution, community and country.
