Summer Engineering Program


PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE COMPLETING YOUR APPLICATION

Please fill out the entire form, before submitting your application and leaving this site. The information you enter into this form can be saved, while working on your application online. However, the information will be lost if you leave this application form before clicking submit.


STEP 1 - GATHER REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

In order to apply for an OAS - Chonnam National University scholarship, the candidate must fill out Online Application Form and attach only the following required documentation:

  • Scan or photo of passport page that contains the applicant’s full name, date of birth, and country of citizenship.
  • Curriculum vitae, in English; no specific format required. Do not include copies of diplomas, certificates or awards; only include text
  • English language proficiency certification (for non-native English speakers), such as the TOEFL with a score of 580 or higher for the paper based test, 237 for computer-based test, or an internet-based TOEFL (IBT) score of at least 92; IELTS 6.5, or the equivalent. Note: The date stated on the TOEFL or IELTS certificate must be within two years of your proposed start date.
    A recommendation letter strictly from a current professor, in English, addressed to the Organization of American States/OAS-Chonnam Scholarship Program. This letter must include the professor’s name, email and telephone number.
  • Essays: Applicants are required to write and include two (2) essays as part of the OAS-Chonnam Online Application Form and must be written in English. Both essays should be no longer than 2 pages.

Essay No. 1: The applicants must describe why they are passionate about engineering and how they consider they can benefit from the academic and cultural components of the Summer Engineering Program at Chonnam National University.

Essay No. 2: The applicant must address a letter of commitment (no specific format required) addressed to the Organization of American States/OAS-Chonnam Scholarship Program indicating that the applicant is willing to: Travel to South Korea to attend the Summer Engineering Program; Attend all academic and cultural components, as per CNU’s instruction, for the five-week duration of the program; and Pay for any personal expense, not covered by this scholarship

  • Transcript for the last study year (submitted in English) and, preferably, included a certification letter, issued by the university, confirming the semester in which the applicant is enrolled. Transcripts must be translated to English by a sworn translator.
  • English language proficiency certification (for non-native English speakers), such as the TOEFL with a score of 580 or higher for the paper based test, 237 for computer-based test, or an internet-based TOEFL (IBT) score of at least 92; IELTS 6.5, or the equivalent. Note: The date stated on the TOEFL or IELTS certificate must be within two years of your proposed start date.

          A high school diploma is also acceptable if it is issued by:

                a. an academic institution in an English-speaking country, or

                b. a bilingual (English+another language) academic institution where 50% or more of the classes are delivered in English.

          These are the only acceptable certifications.

  • A recommendation letter strictly from a current professor, in English, addressed to the Organization of American States/OAS-Chonnam Scholarship Program. This letter must include the professor’s name, email and telephone number.

STEP 2 - APPLY ONLINE

Applicants must complete and submit the OAS-Chonnam Online Application Form, and upload all the required documents listed above and both essays in one (1) single PDF file (no larger than 5MB). If the file is larger than 5MB, you will be unable to summit the online form.

The scholarship application deadline is: May 7, 2017

Notes:

  • OAS will only consider complete applications. Applicants that fail to submit all the required documents will not be considered.
  • Once you submit the online application, you will receive an auto-generated confirmation email to the address you included in the form. Please make sure your email address is correct, otherwise you will not receive a confirmation email.
  • The OAS will not be responsible for any possible technical problem in trying to submit applications during the last week before the deadline, May 7, 2017 until 11:59pm (Washington, D.C. time). We strongly recommend you to apply in advance.
  • Once you have submitted your online application, you can no longer make changes. If you need to correct previously submitted information or documents, you will need to submit a new application. We will only consider the last application submitted.

  • This application form should be completed only online. There is no need to submit original documents to the OAS team or the educational institution.
